David Wexler is a freelance editor, composer, and visual artist
who for three years has been studying synaesthetic and mystical
states in relation to media at Santa Monica College. He is the
proud son of acclaimed production sound mixer Jeff Wexler
(Almost Famous, the Last Samurai, Bound for Glory) and the
proud grandson of cinematographer Haskell Wexler (Who’s
Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,
and Medium Cool), David Wexler’s credits include :
2007 - Editor and Co-Producer of EcoSutra, a documentary
featureabout emerging energy technologies, permaculture,
and a plethora of solutions for the global energy crisis.
2006 - Visual artist/designer of eight 5x8 public works for
Santa Monica College, promoting ecological sustainability
and recycling.
2006 - Visual designer, editor, co-composer, and
co-cinematographer of Din of Celestial Birds (directed
by E. Elias Merhige [Shadow of the Vampire, Begotten])
-an official selection of the Telluride Film Festival 2006
-premiered on Turner Classic Movies 2006

2005-2006 - While be mentored by Linda Lopez and involved
in the Art Mentors Program, he screened more than a dozen
experimental shorts and installations at Santa Monica College,
including :
-Hello Elohim (an exploration of programming and being
programmed in the modern world)
-Metakinetic Painting 101 (an installation allowing viewers
to paint with video feedback loops)
-Only Between Equals (a psychadelic excursion through the
mind of an omniscient infant)
2004-2005 - Organizer and promoter of nine NuOpSys.com
Group Exhibitions
-featuring up and coming musicians, film-makers, actors,
and visual artists, such as Matt Freund, Hunter Canning,
John Hirschmann, Ariana Tosatto, Steve Ellison (a.k.a. Flying
Lotus), and Nuttaphol Ma.
2004 - Wexler attended a year of film-school at the Academy
of Arts in San Francisco, before moving back to Los Angeles
to pursue his studies in mystical states and experimental video
installation.
1999 - Director, writer, and editor of Check, Please, winner of
the AMC Young Film-maker’s award.
1992 - Winner of the International Young Eco-Inventors Award.
